Maharashtra Government Scraps 70:30 norms in medical Course Admission

Mumbai-The Maharashtra government has recently scrapped the 70:30 region-wise formula for admission in the MBBS course in a major decision for the state medical education sector.

Medical Education Minister Amit Deshmukh declared at the state assembly that admissions will now be based on the results of the students who appeared for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). The minister said, instead of the 70:30 region-wise quotas, it will be "one Maharashtra, one merit".

According to the formula, the admission in medical colleges 70 percent of locals from the region and 30 percent for the rest of the state.

Students from state Vidarbha and Marathwada regions are suffered during admission in medical college because the number of medical colleges in these regions is less compared to other regions
